  What is energyOn.co.uk?
While the deregulation of electricity and natural gas often reduces the price customers pay for energy, the process can be confusing. In 1998, we recognized the need for unbiased information and purchasing assistance for customers in deregulated markets. The result is energyOn.co.uk, the World’s Online Energy StoreTM.

We provide convenient, one-stop shopping for residential consumers . On our website, a customer can compare pricing of electricity, natural gas, and dual fuel in his or her area, then sign up with a new supplier online. The service is free, easy and gives customers an independent, apples-to-apples comparison of utility services.

How can energyOn.co.uk save me money?
The government has deregulated energy supply markets in Scotland, England and Wales, allowing competition for residential customers. Many new companies are offering lower prices and existing utilities have to compete. Another way to save money is energy efficiency - see our Energy Tips section under E-Info for ways to conserve energy and save money.

How can energyOn.co.uk save me time?
Finding and sorting through all of the new offers from utility companies can be both time consuming and confusing. The energyOn.co.uk site lets you easily compare prices and offers. Then sign on with a new supplier through our site. It takes very little time and you can do it from your computer.

What do I need to know when comparing rates?
When using energyOn.co.uk to compare utility company rates, you will need to enter specific information regarding your current supplier, payment method, usage and meter type. The rest is up to energyOn.co.uk’s energylinx savings calculator to provide you with the most competitive rates based on other tariff options. Please note that when you’re comparing the rates you pay now to the rates listed on our site, there may be a slight discrepancy as yours may not be the most current rate available.

How is energyOn.co.uk able to provide this free service?
In order to provide a free service, we receive a small commission fee from the energy suppliers when a customer switches to their service through energyOn.co.uk. This is a separate fee and has no bearing on the energy price or savings calculations.

How does energyOn.co.uk keep up with the pricing changes?
The prices contained within energyOn.co.uk’s Energylinx calculator are continuously updated, with many utility providers having their own direct links into our databases and are therefore subject to change from time to time at the discretion of the utility providers.

The prices quoted are based on current prices (gas, electricity and dual fuel) available as of today's date, as a matter of course they do not include historic prices/tariffs.

Should any utility providers offer non-cash offers (eg Air Miles, supermarket points) these are listed separately where they are available in the pop-up screens on the results page. These additional offers are not included in the actual price comparison.

Does energyOn.co.uk offer anything other than utility service choice?
Yes. In addition to basic service signup, we offer buying pool, referral and e-bid programs. We also offer a growing line of energy-related products, usually at reduced prices.

Is energyOn.co.uk a big company?
We began, like most dot coms, as a very small company. We grew steadily because people liked what we offered them. Then, in 2000, American Power Conversion (APC) and energyOn.co.uk formed a strategic alliance to provide end-to-end energy solutions worldwide. This affiliation adds the strength of a $1.3 billion company that is the worldwide leader in power protection and reliability, and has a world-wide customer base of 12 million.

How do I know if a supplier is reliable?
The Energylinx calculator utilizes a unique supplier standards rating system which assesses the quality of service of each domestic electricity and gas supplier.

The system is completely impartial and is derived from complaints received by the industry regulators in regard to issues such as complaints related to actually changing suppliersOK, energy accounts and billing, and those associated with the direct/door step selling of electricity and gas.

Currently the Energylinx price comparison calculators provide a number of options to search for a new electricity or gas contract, including:

  • Search by price
  • Search for a green tariff
  • Search for an internet based account
  • Search by Friends of the Earth Green Energy League Table

It is our intention to launch a "Search by Supplier Standards" in the near future

How can I change suppliers?
Changing supplier is really simple.

In less than five minutes using the energyOn.co.uk service, you can find details of the best prices of electricity and gas available to your home.

The process is:
  1. Input your postcode and details of your current arrangements in one of the Energylinx calculators.

  2. The Energylinx calculator will then calculate the very best deal available to you.

  3. Select the most appropriate deal for you. The Energylinx calculator provides details of the top twenty results available to you. These are calculated on a best price basis.

  4. Complete your personal details and either save the results or proceed to sign-up.

  5. These details are then processed, and separate email is sent to you from Energylinx confirming the change.

  6. The new supplier will also contact you to confirm when your new service will commence. The actual switch is likely to take between 28 - 45 days from when you agree to do so.

Will my gas or electricity service be interrupted when the switch takes place?
No. The only change is in the company from which you buy your energy. You will begin receiving a bill from them. The company that handles delivery of your electricity, natural gas, or dual fuel stays the same.

Will I need new equipment, wires, pipes and meters if I switch suppliers?
No. Nearly all households can switch without any equipment modification. Your meter readers will probably even stay the same.

Are there times when I shouldn’t change suppliers?
With the changes in how energy is provided in the UK, your current utility may be lowering its rates. If you can't find a lower rate (you can find the newest rate of your utility on our site), and if you are happy with their service, stay with them. But if you don't switch, do come back to the energyOn.co.uk site regularly. Prices change, and you might find a much better price later.

Will energyOn.co.uk protect my privacy?
Absolutely. We won’t sell your name or email address and won’t send you any information or promotions if you don’t want them.
